Curriculum Night

As I have said before, I know there are a million and one "cute" ideas out there for Curriculum Night, but I wanted to share what I do in my classroom that works well for me. At our school, curriculum night is held the 1st full week of school. It is held in the evening for just parents to attend. When the parents arrive at school, they first head up to the auditorium for a general session with our principal. After that they head down to classrooms.
When parents arrive in my classroom I direct them to their students' seat. At their seat there is a letter from the student, as well as a letter for the parent to write to their student, A little gift of popcorn from me, All About Me book (made by their child), A wish for this year for parents to fill out, and an ABC folder of Kindergarten (filled with all things to know about Kindergarten).

Inside of the ABC's of Kindergarten folder I also put an invitation for parents to join Seesaw, a copy of our class rules, class schedule, and class roster.

Once the parents have arrived we get into my presentation. First, I give an introduction of myself and my background/family, etc. Then my assistant does the same. Next, I touch on the ABC folder of Kindergarten so that parents understand everything that is held within in. The majority of my presentation is when I do a brief mini lesson of our phonics curriculum. I let the parents know that I am going to teach them just as I would teach my own students. It gets pretty comical! After that I talk about our Thursday Folders, Reading Log, and ask for any questions.

That's a wrap... its a pretty quick, but informative night for parents!
